Encourage Someone Today!

1 Thessalonians 5:11 (New International Version)

11Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Hebrews 3:13 (New International Version)

11But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.

What does encourage mean?  To give courage, hope or confidence, to give support or help.

Think of the last time someone encouraged you.  How did it make you feel?  Did it uplift you, give you hope, enable you to move forward?

Often we get so caught up in the busyness of our day to day lives that we don’t stop and take time to look around us.  Quite often the trials and tribulations we are going through keep us in a self absorbed environment.  How do I know, because I have been there?

For the last couple of years I have had to focus so much on oneself and family that often I felt any conversation I would have with anyone was all about me.  It drove me nuts and to be honest I believe we have seasons where it is all about you.

However during the time I realised that self pity is not a healthy place to be, so I would cry out to God what can I do?  Encourage someone!!!  Really it is that simple.

How do you encourage?  Easy it can be a simple word of praise, post a twitter or facebook encouragement, give a hug, open a door, or smile at a stranger.

You will be very surprised that encouragement works twofold.  Not only will the person on the receiving end feel inspired and lifted up but you will also.  Those feelings of self pity will quickly leave as the spirit of encouragement replaces it.

I now love to encourage wherever I can.  When standing at line at the checkout I will tell the girl serving me that she is doing a good job.  Instead of leaning over she in now standing upright and smiling.  I will leave a note for my husband on his workbook, or write on the diary page of my children.  I will say hello to people when standing in line waiting for coffee.  These are things that were common place years ago but today with mobile phones, ipods etc it is harder to get people’s attention.

Let us walk in a daily habit of encouraging one another.  It lifts not only your spirit but keeps the devil at bay.

Some Ideas on How To Encourage;

1             Send a text message to someone telling them how much you value their friendship.

2             Be aware of what encourages you and do the same for others.

3             Pay for the person’s coffee in front of you.

4             Smile and say hello to everyone

5             Allow a car to get in front of you and smile.

6             Cook a meal or biscuits for your neighbour just because you can.

7             Tell someone they have a great attitude.

8             Leave a note on your work mate’s computer with a smiley face.

9             Look at yourself in the mirror and thank God that you are fearfully and wonderfully made.

10          Encourage someone else to encourage someone.

Father God I thank you for the wonderful gift of encouragement that you have given each of us.  Holy Spirit I pray and ask that you would prompt us daily to encourage someone.  May you give us the spirit of discernment to hear your gentle voice with the words to say and whom to speak to.   Amen

It’s My Birthday

It’s My Birthday

Posted on 02. Jul, 2010 by Julia Mitchell.

Born:  2nd July 1966

Julia-Maree Brearley

Mater Royal Brisbane

13th child to Irene Mary and Graham Foster Brearley

Named after my grandma

Aunty to 2 nephews when born and today have over 45 nieces and nephew and great aunty to not sure how many.

I have not always cherished my birthday for no particular reason and haven’t really taken the time to work it out.

I just skyped my brother and asked him if he remembers the day I was born and his reply “I will always remember the day you arrived I thought to myself small but noisy”

I was reading the Bible this morning and came across this verse Ecclesiastes 7:1 A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.

That could me thinking and googling.  I found a few comments and thoughts.  As we live, we make names for ourselves—good names and/or bad names.

If we act wisely in God’s eyes, we make a good name for ourselves with God. On the day of our birth we have not lived long enough to make any kind of name at all, but years later, on the day of our death, we have made a good name with God, we have something that we did not possess on the day of our birth.

So as I celebrate my birthday I am thankful to the life that I have been given and continue to work on my good reputation and not stress about my age!!!

Below is some trivia out there about my name and birth date.  What amazes me is how accurate this trivia is.   Love your thoughts.

“Your birthday is a special time to celebrate the gift of ‘you’ to the world.”

Your number is: 1

The characteristics of #1 are: Initiating action, pioneering, leading, independent, attaining, individual.

The expression or destiny for #1:
A number 1 Expression denotes the skilled executive with keen administrative capabilities. You must develop the capacity to be a fine leader, sales executive, or promoter. You have the tools to become an original person with a creative approach to problem solving, and a penchant for initiating action. Someone may have to follow behind you to handle the details, but you know how to get things going and make things happen. You have a good mind and the ability to use it for your advancement. Because of these factors, you have much potential for achievement and financial rewards. Frequently, this expression belongs to one running a business or striving to achieve a level of accomplishment on ones talents and efforts. You have little need for much supervision, preferring to act on your own with little restraint. You are both ambitious and determined. Self-confident and self-reliant must be yours, as you develop a strong unyielding will and the courage of your convictions.

Although you fear loneliness, you want to be left alone. You fear routine and being in a rut. You often jump the gun because you are afraid of being left behind.

The negative attributes of the 1 Expression are egotism and a self-centered approach to life. This is an aggressive number and if it is over-emphasized it is very hard to live with. You do not have to be overly aggressive to fulfill your destiny. The 1 has a natural instinct to dominate and to be the boss; adhering to the concept of being number One. Again, you do not have to dominate and destroy in order to lead and manage.

Your Soul Urge number is: 8

A Soul Urge number of 8 means:
With an 8 soul urge, you have a natural flair for big business and the challenges imposed by the commercial world. Power, status and success are very important to you. You have strong urges to supervise, organize and lead. Material desires are also very pronounced. You have good executive abilities, and with these, confidence, energy and ambition.

Your mind is analytical and judgment sound; you’re a good judge of material values and also human character. Self-controlled, you rarely let emotions cloud judgment. You are somewhat of an organizer at heart, and you like to keep those beneath you organized and on a proper track. This is a personality that wants to lead, not follow. You want to be known for your planning ability and solid judgment.

The negative aspects of the 8 soul urge are the often dominating and exacting attitude. You may have a tendency to be very rigid, sometimes stubborn.

Your Inner Dream number is: 11

An Inner Dream number of 11 means:
You dream of casting the light of illumination; of being the true idealist. You secretly believe there is more to life than we can know or prove, and you would like to be provider of the ‘word’ from on high.
